Harry potter creator Joanne Rowling was born July 31, 1965 in chipping sodbury. Her father was an aircraft engineer at Rolls-Royce her mother was part French and part Scottish. Her parents met at the age 19 on a train as it left king’s cross and married at 20.Rowling was born nine months later and then came her sister DI. They lived in Yate, outside Bristol and then Winterbourne. After gainging A levels in French, German and English, Rowling went to Exeter university where she studied French and classics graduating in 1987. She then did a series of secretarial jobs including one at a publisher’s where she was in charge of sending out rejection letters to prospective authors.
Rowling started writing the first Harry potter book in 1990. The idea was conceived when was stuck for four hours on a delayed train between Manchester and London. At the time she was employed, happy in a long term relationship, living in London. Then her mother died from multiple scierosis at the age of 45 and suddenly Rowling life changed. Her relationship failed and she went to Portugal to teach English.
It was here she met journalist Jorges Arantes.After suffering a miscarriage in the summer of 1992, Rowling married Arantes October 16, 1992 and went on to have baby Jessica born July 17, 1993, however, not long after the couple split after a fierce Argument; where it’s alleged Rowling was thrown out of the house.
She returned to England to life as a poor, single mum living in a cold run down flat in Edinburgh. It was during this difficult time that she finally completed Harry potter mostly doing so at an Edinburgh café to keep warm as Jessica slept in her pushchair.
Rowling found an agent who then spent over a year trying to get a publisher, eventually, a quite small publisher, Bloomsbury, agreed to take the book on. They suggested she add a middle initial to her name, so she chose that of her grandmother Kathleen.
